Horse-drawn wagons rumble through the early
mining town, mingling dust with the hopes and dreams of a growing
stream of pioneers. Most of these fortune-hunters are men; one is a
bold woman with a taste for adventure. Sunday finds feisty Maggie
O'Malley properly dressed for church services. The rest of the week,
she tucks her auburn braids beneath her hat and dons men's trousers
to lead mule teams over treacherous mountain trails. When Maggie
meets a handsome itinerant preacher named Matthew Harding, she finds
herself faced with the decision of compromising the life she's
striven so hard to achieve. The story is based on the unconventional
women of the early Colorado Territory and the history of an
authentic mining town in the San Juan Mountains. |
