Novelist Jennifer Egan and writer/musician Jacob Slicher will explore the structural parallels between writing and music and their relevance for writers.
Jennifer Egan is the author of several novels and a collection of short stories. Her 2017 novel, manhattan beacha New York Times bestseller, received the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and was chosen as New York’s One Book One New York reading. Her previous novel, A visit from the Goon Squadwon the 2011 Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Los Angeles Times book award, and was recently named one of the best books of the decade by Time magazine and Weekly entertainment. Also a journalist, she writes frequently in the New York Times Review, and she recently completed a term as President of PEN America. Her new novel, The candy housea brother of A visit from the Goon Squadwas released in April 2022.
Jacob Slicher is the author of So you wanna be a rock & roll star (Broadway Books, 2004) and the drummer of the group Semisonic. He wrote for The New York Timeswas a commentator for NPR morning edition, and currently teaches creative nonfiction at Sarah Lawrence College.
