Hilary Duff blasts Aaron Carter’s upcoming memoir rushed to publication after his sudden death.

“It’s truly sad that less than a week after Aaron’s death, there is a publisher who seems to be recklessly pushing a book to capitalize on this tragedy without taking the time or care to check the validity of his work” , said the how i met your father the star said in a statement to E! New. “To dilute Aaron’s life story to what appears to be unverified click bait for profit is disgusting. I in no way condone shedding light on what is so obviously a money grab uninformed and heartless.”

Here’s what we know about Aaron Carter: An Incomplete Story of an Incomplete Life, written by Andy Symonds: Content for the book was gathered over a three-year period from interviews with the troubled ‘I Want Candy’ singer, who struggled with drug addiction and mental illness and was found dead last Saturday at the age of 34. While the author acknowledged that they hadn’t finished the book, leaving gaps and unknowns in Carter’s story, it will still be published by Symonds’s Ballast Books on November 15.

“Aaron Carter hired me to help him tell his story to the world,” Symonds told Yahoo Entertainment in a statement Friday, following criticism from Duff. “This story, though tragically cut short, was filled with good and bad. His life was far from pretty, and it’s understandable that some people in the public eye don’t want some of the stories Aaron tells in his book. come to light. That doesn’t make them any less true or newsworthy. Aaron had the right – as we all do – to tell his story. As a journalist, I’m honored that he chose me for the help do that. In addition to being cathartic for him, Aaron hoped this book would help others struggling with addiction and mental illness. I hope and believe it will.”

Duff said the publisher failed to take “due time or care to check the validity” of the book, which the New York Post includes claims about their sex life as children. He claims they lost their virginity to each other in a hotel when they were both ‘maybe ’13’ but I don’t remember’, which seems to the both confusing and disgusting.

The book also tells the story of Carter having a sleepover at his friend Michael Jackson’s house and waking up to find the King of Pop next to his bed in his underwear. (Carter long defended Jackson during his lifetime. He cited an “inappropriate” incident, but later clarified it was not sexual in nature. Carter named his son, Prince, after Jackson in 2021. )

News of Carter’s book release was first announced Wednesday in a press release. It indicated that the book would include Carter’s perspective on her relationship with her famous family – including her estranged big brother Nick of Backstreet Boys fame – and her battle with suicidal thoughts. He claimed that Carter, who rose to fame in the 90s in the footsteps of boybander Nick, “was an open book during the writing process. It’s a tragic irony that his autobiography will never include all of his stories, thoughts, hopes and dreams…as he had planned.” Nevertheless, Carter is described as a “kind, gentle and talented soul. [but] not without his demons” and he said that he “was so excited to tell his story” that it’s up to him “to publish the parts that we have completed”.

Beyond Duff’s criticism of the book, Carter’s own management team condemns it. They thanked Duff for his statement and said: ‘In the few days since the passing of our dear friend, we have tried to mourn and process while simultaneously having to deal with obscenely disrespectful and unhelpful releases. This is a time of mourning and reflection not heartless cash grabbing and attention seeking,” according to E! New.

The “Aaron’s Party” singer and Lizzie McGuire star had a middle-aged romance. They were first linked in 2000, when they were 13, and the young love lasted three years – with a very famous hit in there.

“I started dating Hilary on my 13th birthday,” Carter told CNBC in 2005. went and got to know Lindsay, dating Lindsay.” Yes, that would be Lindsay Lohan, and, yes, there was a love triangle between the two.”

While Carter and Duff patched things up a bit, they eventually went their separate ways. However, he has long carried a torch for the Younger star – to the point where, when they were both single at 26 (she had just split from first husband Mike Comrie), Carter declared his love to her on Twitter in 2014. He told his fans to not “be that stupid asshole who loses the love of your life forever. Like me…” and vowed to “spend the rest of my life trying…to get back to [Duff]. Carter, who came out as bisexual in 2017, had several long-term relationships in his later years, including the last three years of his life with recurring fiancee Melanie Martin, the mother of his only child.
